The fuel crisis in Bario is over, for the time being, anyhow!

Word has reached us that they managed to get three charter loads in last week.  By all accounts, the new stock was almost immediately sold out!

9th December, 2002

The people of Bario have not been able to access e-mail for over two weeks since their Internet Cafe has been closed all that time.

Quite understandable during the last week of November, since Bario had run out of fuel, the situation having been compounded by one week of wet afternoons, the solar batteries having too short a time to charge up.

Why they remained closed last week is not known, for it was hot and sunny, excessively so, in fact!

1st December, 2002

The Bario Asal Youth Committee have mobilsed for a series of gotong-royong fund-raising sessions to subsidise the longhouse's Christmas activities.

It appears that our young school kids, back in Bario for the break, are in for a working holiday!

1st December, 2002

Bario has run out of petrol yet again, for the third time in as many months. Though they still have a small amount of diesel left for their electricity generators, it is not likely to last more than a few more days.

Layang Layang, of course, has the usual story to tell us - their aircraft is not available since it is stationed in Kuching to service an aerial survey contract.

What they told the newspapers the last time this happened, that the Kelabits were running out of fuel because they had not made any bookings, was simply not true - the Layang Layang aircraft are never available at the required time!

We need your help to make these pages work.  Any news item of Kelabit events or about individual Kelabits will be welcome, from anywhere in the world.

You do not have to be an expert in writing, journalism or photography. Timing is the only important thing.

Send us an e-mail with a synopsis, as soon as you hear of a forthcoming event or immediately after it has taken place.

If you have digital pictures about the event,
