We regret we were unable to provide news during March, April and May 2003. All the news items on these pages, between November 2002 and February 2003, were provided by just one contributor who now no longer lives in Sarawak.

We regret to announce that Bala Ditta @ Kuda' Dita', the first Kelabit to compete in the Olympic Games, died of stomach cancer at his house in Padang Kerbau, Miri, on 17th June. He was 66.
A serving Police Officer, he became Sarawak's first Olympian when, at the age 27, he competed in the 100m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics alongside fellow-Malaysians M. Jegathesan (200 metres sprint) and K. Selvaratnam (400 metres hurdles). Though he failed to win a medal at Tokyo, he was more successful at the 1971 and 1973 SEAP Games, winning one silver and one bronze medal respectively.

Agan Sebastian Chew, son of Chew Sze Thiam and Supang Galih of Pa' Lungan, got engaged to Miss Hamimah Talib of Kota Belud, Sabah, on the 14th June. The engagement ceremony, attended by both families, was solemnised by SIB Semenanjung's Secretary General, Richard Samporoh.
The wedding is expected to take place in April or June 2004, most probably in Kuching.

VisionAir no longer exists. Though the service was taken over by Hornbill Skyways, it has not been operational for two weeks since the aircraft had been grounded. Latest reports suggest that Hornbill Skyways have got it back on normal scheduled flights to Bario.

Ulit Matu@ Inan Diu of Bario Asal, the father of Dr. Roland Dom Mattu, has been seriously ill for the past week.

An engagement ceremony, for Pengiran Tuie and Heltder Matu, was held on Friday 6th June 2003 at Taman Tunku in Miri. Pengiran Tuie, the second youngest of ten siblings, is the son of Tuie Kipu and Elau Luyouk. Heltder Matu is the second daughter of Tapan Tepun @ Abel Maran and Nait Ulun @Supang Tinggang.

We regret to announce that Tagong Riboh @ Kerab Ulun, the Headman of Ulung Palang B longhouse, passed away in Miri on 6th June after a long illness. The funeral was held at the SIB Morsjaya cementery on 7th June.

Mr. Henry Lian, the President of Rurum Kelabit Sarawak, suffered a stroke while attending the Highlanders' Carnival in Miri on June 2nd. He was immediately sent to the Normah Hospital in Kuching for further treatment.
